NEWS REPORT
END OF YEAR NEWS - 2009
Well finally a news update! We must apologise for getting so far behind. The following account, and not in any particular order is a brief summary of the highlights since our last report …..
Stephen won the Victoria State Junior Champs on Anne Day’s Lolita as well as the Pixieville Memorial Junior Championship on Kirkley Hill Dejavu. From the two National Young Rider Series events held in South Australia, Stephen was 2nd on Lolita in the first event held at Metro and won the second event at the Kapunda Ag Show, earning him 7th place nationally and invited to be a member of the National Young Rider Squad for the second year running. Congratulations to him for also finishing the year as Leading Junior Showjumping Rider 2009 with his horse Kirkley Hill Dejavu also the Leading Junior Horse.
Alice Cooney had a great year winning the Junior Championships at Wistow on her new horse Belcam Alida with her other horse Galvey Bay 3rd in the same class. She was also equal first in the Young Rider Championship with both horses the following weekend at Crystal Brook Show, as well as a 3rd place in the Pixieville Memorial with Galvey Bay. Alice now has Belcam Alida with her in Singapore and went on to win the 120cm FEI in Singapore from a small but quality field of horses and riders from around the globe.
Belinda Lindh won the D Grade at Arthurton Show and husband Mark had some great performances on Jokerman, culminating in winning the D Grade Championship at the Beachport Showjumping Festival just after Christmas. Mark’s new horse, Six Pack a well-bred young Hanoverian related Shutterfly and co-owned with Jonathan & Nancy Asselin of Canada arrived safely in Australia and is now home on the Lindh’s property ready to start training as a showjumper.
I had some solid performances at the NSW and Australian Championships in Canberra and finished the season with a couple of very good wins on Lolita and some solid placings on Traktion.
Tomboy had a win late in the season and Tra La La was outstanding winning a D Grade, then the Newcomers Classic at Kapunda and then won the Young Rider class at Mt Gambier with the only double clear round.
The SA State Pony Club Showjumping Team competed with success at the Nationals held at SIEC in Sydney, with most riders dominating the EA showjumping competitions as well.
As well as the regular trips to Singapore which are always great as I enjoy seeing the improvement of riders each time, I also had clinics in Mildura NSW and Darwin in the Northern Territory.
Morya, Conor and I travelled to the UK with Laura and John to visit an elderly relative and made the most of the trip playing tourist in the nice (well sort of) weather in June. At the same time we purchased a new Hino truck which has gone to Adam Crouch to build the horse box/living arena.
At the Northern Equestrian Centre, we sadly said goodbye to Nadège who had been with us for seven years. After having surgery on her hand she decided it was time to spend some time with her new husband Richard and have a break from working with horses all day. Thankfully, she has agreed to fill in when staff are on leave.
Horses we sold also performed very well at the recent Singapore FEI. Apart from Alice’s win in the 120cm class, Emma Romell won the Children’s FEI on Deux Mille and Tosca Little was 2nd on PS Leroy. Tirtha Medappa and Kittywaike were 2nd in the 105cm and Gena Marjanovic was 5th in the same class.
As well as regular visits from Alice, who is now consider part of the family, we also had lots of other overseas visitors and friends come to our yard to train (or stopover to stay hello) including Grace; Katinka and the girls; Joey; Pascale, Marylene, Josephine; Pedja who was here for the Royal Show and Julie who had us in awe as she told us of her 1000km ride in Mongolia. My apologies if we have forgotten anyone!
We organised a table in the Adelaide Equity Partners hospitality marquee at the Adelaide International 3 Day Event and invited some of our owners/clients to join us for lunch on the cross country day. It was a fantastic day even though Adelaide was sweltering with a heatwave, quite unusual in November. The organisers certainly made it as comfortable as they could – for humans and equines. Everyone involved must be congratulated for their superb efforts.
We bought and sold Zena to Singapore, Gambrinus went to in Sydney, Cougar sold to Korea and Trax went to a hunting home in Adelaide.
Together with the Lindh’s we bought Tra La La from Nick Rodgers, and also had two foals (embryo transplant) born early in 2010 from our Lux Z mare Lilly.
John Phillips has been busy breeding some exciting horses too with several now on the ground by Lux Z, Contenda, Valhalla and Jubilee Bay. He also purchased Tra La La’s foal by Budweiser and her full brother Taku who is now in our yard ready to start.
Our business is now officially called Reed Equestrian Australia effective 1st January and Morya is busy organising the update the website, stationery and other official documents.
Last, but not least, Conor broke his wrist at the Junior/Young Rider show at Mt Gambier on the 1st January 2010. We are hoping that is the end of our bad luck for the year! |
