DECEMBER 2007 NEWS REPORT

Well, still no movement yet on horses leaving for Singapore. Although AQIS Biosecurity Australia and the Singapore AVA have agreed in principle, final details are yet to be confirmed.  Very frustrating for all concerned!

Briony Temby was here for a week’s work experience and it was great to have her here.  We bought a little pony “Tommy” and he was quickly sold to Kathleen and Pete for their daughter Jessica.  He was a very nice birthday present for her just a couple of days after Christmas.  Having someone of Briony’s size to give him a good workout during her week’s stay was very nice.  I think she enjoyed riding most of the other horse here too.

It was nice to get an email last month from the Cronin family (David, Kee, Charlotte, Dylan and Emma) in New York and we were glad to hear that the whole family are happy and well-settled back into US life after many years abroad.  Under the guidance of her US trainer Kim Perlman, Charlie (Charlotte) has been very busy competing on her horse Janeils Encore. They had a lot of success at the Vermont Summer Show held at the Harold Beebe Farm in East Dorset and sent us a photo from one of the classes.  This competition facility boasts FIVE all weather rings, including one of the largest Grand Prix fields in New England – and I am very jealous!  Whilst it is with much pride and pleasure that I can report on the success of Janeils Encore, the Cronin’s other mare On Trak has an injury that requires her to have a substantial amount of time off.  I sincerely hope she can come back to the great showjumping form she had here in SA last year. Fingers crossed!

Back home it was nice to take some horses out to a Training Day at Metro which was wonderful just to get out.  Allanah Johnson also came with us as her mare had been here for some work.  All the horses went well and it was a great day out.

Stephen attended the Young Rider Scholarship weekend riding his mare Nefertiti the following weekend.  It was great to see so many riders from the Pony Club State Squad taking part.  John Patterson was Coach and Brian Broad the Selector.  It was nice for me to be a spectator for 2 days – which was quite different. I think they are going to have a difficult decision selecting a winner as they were all very competent.  Morya and I were pleased with Stephen’s efforts in every respect on the weekend and he certainly did himself proud.

Erica Taylor brought a nice young warmblood to our place a couple of time for me to ride.  I was certainly honoured to help her out as Erica is an icon here in South Australia and certainly someone who I have a lot of respect for.

I went along with Briony and Avril to see a nice horse they ultimately purchased, so we should see this new combination out and about at the shows very soon.

The annual Northern Equestrian Centre “Christmas barbecue” was a quiet affair this year but was certainly enjoyed by all those that attended.
